Rangers 0-1 Celtic: Jota header sends Bhoys to Scottish Cup final

Celtic will play Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup final after they beat Rangers 1-0 in an Old Firm semi-final at Hampden Park.

A typically high-tempo Glasgow derby saw Jota head in the only goal of the game just before half-time to keep Celtic s treble hopes alive.

Rangers had chances to level in the second half, with James Tavernier hitting the post, but they were unable to find a way past Joe Hart on Sunday.

Just one win away from sealing the Scottish Premiership, Ange Postecoglou s side further cemented their superiority over their rivals with a fourth win in five Old Firm derbies this season.

Cameroon seek revenge against Egypt

Revenge will be in the air on Monday when Cameroon battle champions Egypt for a place in the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations in Benguela.

In what is arguably the pick of the four quarter-final matches of Angola 2010, the Indomitable Lions will first wish to avenge for the defeat they suffered at the hands of the Pharaohs in the final of the 2008 Nations Cup in Ghana.

Mohamed Aboutrika squeezed the ball home to give Egypt their record sixth Nations Cup trophy and extend their superiority over Cameroon.

Three weeks earlier they had beaten the same team 4-2 in a group game in Kumasi.

Egypt also ensured that Cameroon lost out on the 2006 World Cup when they held them to a 1-1 draw in Yaounde to pave the way for the Ivory Coast to make their World Cup…

Jovetic: Inter will beat Juventus for the fans

Stevan Jovetic wants to please Inter s fans by taking three points from the Derby d Italia clash with Juventus on Sunday.

Roberto Mancini s team were knocked off top spot in Serie A by Fiorentina in the previous round of fixtures but still hold an eight-point advantage over their Turin-based rivals.

Montenegro international Jovetic who has been struggling with a hamstring injury in recent weeks does not believe the defending champions are enduring a crisis but hopes to add to their woes at San Siro.

Physically, I m fine and I ll be ready to play. We will have to be careful as they are a good team and I do not trust those who talk of a crisis, Jovetic told Tuttosport.

The fans want us to win against Juventus and we want to please them.

Berahino exiled to France for fitness boot camp

Saido Berahino has been sent to undergo specialist training in France in an attempt to get fit, West Brom head coach Tony Pulis confirmed.

The former England Under-21 international has only played four times in the Premier League this season, with the forward struggling for fitness and unable to improve his form from last term when he scored just four goals in 31 appearances.

Berahino has endured a difficult time since reportedly becoming distracted by transfer speculation at the end of the 2014-15 campaign, and now finds himself sent away for an intensive four-day boot camp in France.

And Pulis is optimistic that Berahino will return a much sharper player.

Saido s off at the moment in a fitness centre, working with a fella that I worked with when I was …

Germany showed ´enormous quality´ in Armenia rout – Flick

Hansi Flick was delighted to see Germany show their enormous quality as they hammered Armenia 6-0, though Serge Gnabry felt the victory could have been more emphatic.

Germany moved to the top of World Cup qualifying Group J in style in Flick s first home game in charge on Sunday.

Gnabry scored twice in the first 15 minutes before goals from Marco Reus and Timo Werner put the game beyond all doubt by half-time.

Jonas Hofmann and debutant Karim Adeyemi rounded off a rout that thrilled head coach Flick, who was quick to urge his side to stay focused ahead of Wednesday s clash with Iceland.

I liked this game but on Wednesday we still have a game in Iceland, so the team can be happy with their performance but we have to stay focused, Flick told RTL.

De Jong ´always wanted to stay at Barcelona´

Frenkie de Jong always wanted to stay at Barcelona  despite heavy interest from Manchester United during the transfer window.

Netherlands international De Jong was the subject of a long-running saga, with the midfielder s former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag reportedly desperate to build his new-look United side around him.

A move looked likely after it was suggested De Jong was owed €17million in deferred wages and had been asked to sign a new contract with a salary reduction of around 40 per cent.

The switch never materialised, though, with United instead signing Casemiro from Real Madrid in a bid to strengthen their midfield.

This was Barça s starting eleven at the Reale Arena for matchday two in the league.

Lyon insist Gourcuff will stay

Lyon say that in-demand playmaker Yoann Gourcuff will still be at the club once the transfer window has closed.

Gourcuff, 27, is thought to be a transfer target of Arsenal, while La Liga sides Atletico Madrid and Valencia have also been linked with a move for the former Bordeaux man.

The France international battled injury last season and made just 18 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring three goals.

But despite the fact he has failed to replicate his form he showed at Bordeaux since moving for €22 million in 2010, Lyon are still keen to keep him at the Stade de Gerland.

Lyon presidential advisor Bernard Lacombe told OL TV: Yoann Gourcuff won t leave during this transfer window. The president told me that there were opportunities, but all three parties need to be in ag…

Has Chelsea’s transfer business in January impressed you?

Will signing Nemaja Matic prove to be a masterstroke from Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho?

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has brought one player in and shipped two players in the January transfer window so far, but the moves are being questioned by some.

Serbian international midfielder Nemanja Matic has returned to the club from Benfica in a deal worth a reported fee of £20million.

Belgium winger Kevin De Bruyne has joined Bundesliga club Wolfsburg in a deal worth £16million, while left-back Ryan Bertrand has joined Aston Villa on-loan for the rest of the season.

Re-signing Matic was a strange one for some though.

Parma points punishment overturned

Newly promoted Parma will start the new season on a level footing with the rest of Serie A after a five-point penalty was overturned and replaced with a fine.

The sanction was originally imposed in July by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) after they concluded Parma forward Emanuele Calaio sent suspicious messages to Spezia players last term.

Calaio – who used to play for Spezia – was found to have communicated with former team-mates Filippo De Col and Claudio Terzi ahead of the Serie B fixture between the teams at the end of the 2017-18 season.

In the FIGC s case document, which named both De Col and Terzi, it accused Calaio of trying to get less commitment from the players of Spezia . Parma won the game 2-0 to secure a third successive promotion.

Atletico Madrid 0 Inter 1: Martinez stunner secures victory for Nerazzurri

Lautaro Martinez s stunning volley secured Inter a 1-0 victory over Atletico Madrid in the final match of the International Champions Cup.

Forward Martinez scored the only goal of the game in the 31st minute against the club he nearly joined last year, acrobatically putting away Kwadwo Asamoah s cross-field ball to stun the home side at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The Argentine forward  signed by Inter from Racing Club in July also demonstrated his blossoming partnership with Mauro Icardi early in the first half, sending his compatriot through on goal in the 11th minute.

Jan Oblak rushed from his line to smother Icardi’s chipped attempt on that occasion, but the Atletico goalkeeper could do little to prevent the game s eye-catching winner just after the half…
